Join us for our "Introduction to Beekeeping: Level 2" Class. Whether you are just curious about honey bees, want to teach the family about bees, are thinking about starting a backyard hive, or are a new beekeeper, this class is designed for you. This is a classroom only class, no suit is necessary, and all experience levels are welcome. (Recommended for ages 8+, but all ages are welcome. Ages 2 & under are free.)
We strive to promote healthy environments through education, community involvement, and advocating sustainable landscapes. We teach conservation of pollinators, honey bee stewardship, and sustainable land management. In line with our mission, our classes focus on natural and sustainable beekeeping philosophies and practices, especially for backyard beekeepers.
Many people are intrigued about bees, but are hesitant to start their own hives. Others plunge right in and feel they need more direction. We can help you gain the knowledge and confidence you need.
This Level 2 class is best to follow the Level 1 class, but is not mandatory. In addition, you can take them out of order, so check to see when our next Level 1 class is scheduled.
Level 2 Covers:
Beekeeping Safety Gear
Beekeeping Equipment
Types of Hives
Differences in Hive Management
Beekeeping in CA Micro-climates
Seasonal Expectations by SoCal Region
Hive Placement
Splitting and Expanding Brood
